Dr. Gordon Bell played a pivotal role in the establishment of what we now know as Moccasin Creek Country Club. Recognizing the need for Aberdeen to have a top-tier golf course and club, he pursued this vision with unwavering dedication. Despite facing challenges along the way, Moccasin Creek has evolved into one of the premier golf courses and clubs in the Dakotas. In tribute to Dr. Bell's enduring commitment, we take great pride in naming our signature restaurant "Gordie's."

Charles Maddox, the esteemed architect and builder, crafted our admired golf course. Hailing from the Maddox Construction Co. in Chicago, which began constructing golf courses in the late 1800s, Charles Maddox, the third-generation owner, gained renown for his exceptional design work. His portfolio included over 40 golf courses, such as Hillsview in Pierre, and notable clubs like Olympic Hills, Medina, and Majestic Oaks in the Twin Cities. Maddox played a pivotal role in advising the Club's Founders on various aspects, contributing significantly to the enduring success story that is Moccasin Creek.

The Oertli Room, boasting a picturesque vista of the lush golf course, is a coveted banquet space ideal for various occasions such as business gatherings, bridal showers, and family events. On July 15, 1967, the Club's Founders acquired prime farmland from John and Helen Oertli. This land stood out for its ideal soil quality, natural irrigation, and drainage—perfect conditions for a prospective golf course. John Oertli, a World War I veteran, had diligently farmed the land for numerous decades. Despite facing resentment from neighbors, he eventually sold the property to a group of young community leaders with a distinctive vision.

The Shortridge Studio pays homage to Moccasin Creek's inaugural golf professional, Dean Shortridge. A distinguished member of the South Dakota Golf Hall of Fame, Dean retired in the mid-1980s but continued to be a constant presence at the Club. He generously shared golf tips with members and offered sage advice to the golf operations team. A legendary figure in both the local community and the broader state golf scene, Dean left an indelible mark on the initial decades of Prairiewood/Moccasin Creek. Although he passed away in 2012 at the age of 87, his legacy endures through the guidance imparted to our current PGA professionals.
