MC3 | Clubhouse Renewal

Thank you to the supportive members and community businesses that made the 2023 completion of our Clubhouse renovation a reality. Enjoy some construction and finished product pictures below.

June 1, 2023 Update

The interior of the building is substantially done. Exterior work continues and the finishing touches are being completed. The entire picture is coming into focus.

April 15, 2023 Update

The Kitchen is open and serving food in the Maddox with a new Maddox menu! The golf simulators are busy and the Golf Shop millwork is starting to be installed. Within the week the Shop will be able to fully display all the merchandise that has already arrived.

The upper level contruction is coming along very well and we anticipate to fully have all spaces open before the end of the April. This week the carpet will be installed, restrooms completed, offices opened, and cleanup finished. The view from the new dining and banquet space is wonderful and we are excited to reveal a completed interior to the members.

After opening there will still be work to be done on the service elevator, basement storage, and of course the exterior of the clubhouse. This winter did not allow for timely work on the exterior. Please excuse our mess outside as the crew works diligently to bring out a new and exciting look to our 50+ year old clubhouse.

ALL OF THESE NEW AREAS OF THE CLUBHOUSE HAVE BEEN REBRANDED. CLICK HERE TO LEARN MORE ABOUT GORDIES at Moccasin Creek, the MADDOX, OERTLI & FOUNDERS ROOMS, and the SHORTRIDGE STUDIO.

March 10, 2023 Update

With the opening of the Maddox and Shortridge Studio simulators, the members have more of an idea of what their new clubhouse will look like. The golf professionals have moved back into the Golf Shop and it is 90% complete. Merchandise will start arriving soon. The project work is moving along in the upper level member dining, banquet, kitchen, restrooms, and office spaces. The south addition that expands the footprint of the building is compete. The new fireplace in the dining room is in place, soffits and walls are going up, and the kitchen work is moving along quickly.

The kitchen is expected to be open and able to serve food in the Maddox by late March. The clubhouse is expected to be fully open by mid-April. There will still be much outside work to compete, probably well into May with the "rough" winter we have been experiencing. Overall, this project has gone very well and we are excited to have a fully functional clubhouse sooner rather than later.

January 27, 2023 Update

The new Maddox Pub and Shortridge Studio golf simulators are now open! The construction has now moved to the upper level dining, banquet space, restrooms and offices. Also more exterior work is being done and the golf shop reno is moving along nicely. Everything is on-time for an April grand opening!

Maddox Pub – The new casual bar and lounge area offers a modern feel, in a more relaxed open space.  Here members will find multiple TV’s, comfortable furniture, and new entrances from the north and south.  Best of all, the new patio on the north side of the Pub will be the best outdoor recreational space in the region.  The Maddox Pub is where stories will be told, and memories will be made.

Charles Maddox was the architect and builder of our highly regarded golf course.  The Maddox Construction Co. out of Chicago started building golf courses in the late 1800’s, and third generation owner and architect Charles Maddox was renowned for his design work.  Some of his over 40 golf courses included Hillsview in Pierre, and Olympic Hills, Medina CC, and Majestic Oaks in the Twin Cities.  Maddox advised the Founders of the Club on many issues that lead to what has turned out to be an enduring success story.

Shortridge Studio – This multi-purpose and golf simulator room has two sims for year-round enjoyment. In addition, this space can be quickly converted over to a private party room.  Perfect for intimate meetings, private dinners, birthday parties, or even use half the space for your group function and the other half can remain a simulator to add some fun.

The Shortridge Studio is named after Moccasin Creek’s first golf professional, Dean Shortridge.  This South Dakota Golf Hall of Fame member retired in the mid-1980’s but remained a fixture at the Club offering golf tips to the members and sage advice to the golf operations team.  He was a legend in the community and the golf world around the state and had a major impact on the first several decades of Prairiewood/Moccasin Creek.  Dean passed away in 2012 at the age of 87, but his legacy lives on with our current PGA professionals.

The original clubhouse was constructed in 1971. Much of that structure exists today. Over time, several additions have been made and renovations undertaken to try to keep the facility current and functional to serve members’ needs. Now, with age and shifting demographics, the clubhouse feels tired, disjointed, and lacks the spaces required to keep our members comfortable and to serve large events. The infrastructure of the clubhouse is also antiquated and needs a full update. The plumbing, electric, HVAC and building exterior are all well beyond their useful lives. Taking a piecemeal approach has kept the club functioning for the last several decades but will actually increase costs in the long run.  The time has come to secure the next 50 years of the clubhouse by completing a full renovation. What better time to do that than during the club’s 50th anniversary?

Through a combination of conservative budgeting and the Forward to the Future Capital Campaign, this project is a reality. But we have not reached our fundraising goals. While we have enough for the "base" project, there are some terrific alternates that take this project from really good to awesome. We still need support and ask that you thoughtfully consider a five-year pledge. This is our opportunity, our time to build for the future and pay it foward to succeeding generations, just like those courageous founding members did 50 plus years ago!

“We can make it happen if we all work together.” I am sure you have heard that before. It rings true in spades for our clubhouse renovation project.

When the board first looked at the feasibility of the clubhouse renovation, we looked at the needs, the wants, and what we thought we could achieve. First addressing the needs of our 50 year-old building and then the wants based on what we could afford.

When we looked at the fundraising goals of the project, we looked at both the minimum dollars that we needed to raise and the number of members willing to contribute. Although we have had success in the dollars raised, the amount raised has come from less than half of our members. We understand and do not expect that all members will give to the same level as others. But no amount is too small. And small amounts from many members provides substantial financial support. Not only do small amounts help in funding the project, but they also acknowledge your support of the project. Please consider a pledge to this project.

We can make it happen if we all work together.
